Latisse eyelash enhancement
Latisse (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution 0.03%) is a prescription topical treatment that grows your own upper-lash lashes longer, thicker, and darker. Because it's a prescription, you'll need a brief consultation with one of our physicians before your first kit — we can usually do this in a single appointment, and we'll write the prescription on the spot if Latisse is appropriate for you. Most patients see longer lashes around the 4-week mark, with full results at 16 weeks of nightly use.

What is Latisse?
Latisse is a prescription topical solution — the active ingredient is bimatoprost, originally developed by Allergan as a glaucoma eye drop. Patients in those trials noticed their lashes growing longer and fuller as a side effect, which led to Latisse, the first and only prescription treatment approved for inadequate or sparse eyelashes. Applied once nightly to the base of the upper lashes, it extends the natural growth phase of the lash cycle, so existing lashes grow longer and more new lashes reach maturity.
Do I need a prescription?
Yes. Latisse is prescription-only in Canada. You can't buy it over the counter, online without a prescription, or through a pharmacy without one of our physicians (or another qualified prescriber) writing the prescription first.
How do I get a prescription?
Book a consultation at our Halifax clinic. The visit is short — a physician will review your eye and medical history, confirm Latisse is appropriate for you, answer any questions, and write the prescription. Once you have an active prescription on file with us, future kits can be reordered through our Latisse request form without another appointment — our front desk verifies your prescription against your chart before fulfilling the order.
What results can I expect?
In Allergan's pivotal 16-week clinical trial, 78% of participants saw a meaningful improvement in overall lash prominence — length, thickness, and darkness — compared with 18% on the vehicle (placebo) solution. Results are your own lashes growing; Latisse isn't an extension or a tint.
When will I see results?
Most patients notice longer lashes at around 4 weeks. Fullness and darkness continue to develop through weeks 8–12, with full results at 16 weeks. Growth is gradual — applying more than once a day will not speed it up.
How do I use it?
Once a night, apply a single drop to the sterile applicator and draw it along the skin at the base of the upper eyelashes — like a thin line of eyeliner. Only the upper lid. Blot any excess so it doesn't run onto the cheek. Remove contact lenses first; you can put them back in 15 minutes later.
Maintenance after the first 16 weeks
Once you've reached your full result, most patients drop to twice-weekly application to maintain it. A single kit lasts about a month with nightly use, and considerably longer at the maintenance cadence.
Side effects to know about
The most common side effects are mild eye itching and redness, reported in roughly 4% of patients. Less common: darkening of the skin at the application site (usually reversible after stopping), eye irritation, dryness, or eyelid redness. Stop use and contact your physician if you develop a new eye condition, eye infection, or notice a sudden change in vision. If you have a history of elevated intraocular pressure or use eye-pressure medications, tell us during your consultation — Latisse can still be appropriate, but should be supervised.
What happens if I stop?
Your eyelashes will gradually return to their previous appearance over the following weeks to months. Nothing is permanent — the effect lasts only as long as you use the product.
Cost
The standard 3 mL Latisse kit is approximately $150 and lasts about a month with nightly use during the initial 16-week treatment. A larger 5 mL kit is also available for approximately $250 — better value if you've settled into the routine or are continuing past the first treatment cycle. At the twice-weekly maintenance cadence, either kit lasts substantially longer. The consultation fee is separate; see our consultation page for current pricing.
