Laser Hair Removal
Luma Clinic provides permanent hair reduction using the advanced, Health Canada-approved Medik808 Triple Wave Diode (Health Canada registration 113784). This medical-grade system allows our Master Esthetician Jaime to deliver highly effective, safe treatments tailored to all skin types and hair profiles—including notoriously difficult light and fine hair—with a high degree of patient comfort.
The Essentials
When considering laser hair removal, patients typically have a few primary considerations regarding efficacy, safety, and timeline:
Comprehensive Hair Targeting: Our advanced technology effectively treats light and fine hair. While traditional lasers struggle with low-pigment or thin hair, the Medik808 is engineered to capture these profiles for a more complete reduction.
Safe for All Skin Types: The Medik808 is considered a gold-standard technology for treating every complexion, from the lightest to the deepest (Fitzpatrick Skin Types I–VI), without the risk of thermal injury or hyperpigmentation.
Permanent Reduction: Laser hair removal provides permanent hair reduction by neutralizing the hair follicle at the root. Treated follicles are destroyed, offering long-lasting results that significantly outperform temporary methods like waxing or shaving.
Treatment Timeline: Because hair grows in distinct cycles, laser technology is only effective on follicles in the active growth phase. A comprehensive treatment plan typically requires 6 to 8 sessions to ensure optimal clinical outcomes.
Treatable Areas: The Medik808 is suitable for both large treatment zones—legs, back, chest, arms—and smaller, more delicate areas of the face, including the upper lip, chin, cheeks, and sideburns, using a dedicated precision facial tip.
Our Technology: The Medik808 Triple Wave Diode
At Luma Clinic, we utilize the Medik808 Triple Wave Diode system. This highly advanced device allows us to safely treat a broader spectrum of patients more efficiently than older laser modalities.

Triple Wavelength Precision
Unlike traditional lasers that rely on a single wavelength, the Medik808 delivers three distinct wavelengths—755nm, 808nm, and 1064nm—through a single handpiece. This allows the laser to target the hair follicle at multiple anatomical depths:
- 755nm: Effectively targets lighter, thinner, and finer hair that older lasers often miss.
- 808nm: The standard wavelength for rapid, highly effective treatment of most hair types.
- 1064nm: Safely bypasses the melanin in the epidermis to reach deeper hair roots. This specific wavelength ensures the treatment is safe and effective for deeper complexions.
Advanced Safety and Comfort Protocols
Patient safety and comfort are paramount. The Medik808 is equipped with an integrated Ice Technology cooling tip that chills the treatment surface to -32°C. This continuous epidermal cooling protects the skin, numbs the treatment area on contact, and neutralizes the heat from the laser. While every patient's tolerance varies, most find the procedure considerably more comfortable than waxing or older laser systems.
Exceptional Efficiency
The Medik808 operates at a frequency of 10 flashes per second. This rapid delivery system allows for swift treatment times without compromising efficacy. Large treatment areas, such as a full set of legs, can be completed comprehensively in as little as 8 minutes.
Treatment Protocol and Patient Expectations
To ensure you achieve the best possible clinical results, it is important to understand the treatment process and how to prepare.
Preparing for Your Appointment
Shaving: Patients are required to cleanly shave the treatment area 24 hours prior to their appointment. Unlike waxing, there is no need to grow the hair out between sessions—you can shave as normal right up until the day before treatment, making the Medik808 considerably easier to fit into daily life than wax-based alternatives.
Skin Condition: The skin must be clean and free of any lotions, deodorants, or topical products.
Sun Exposure: While our laser is safe for all skin tones, we advise against treating skin that has been actively exposed to UV rays or artificial tanning products within two weeks of the appointment.
Post-Treatment and Downtime
Laser hair removal with the Medik808 requires zero clinical downtime. Patients may experience mild, temporary erythema (pinkness) or slight follicular swelling in the treated area immediately following the procedure. This is a normal clinical endpoint indicating that the follicles were successfully targeted. It typically resolves within a few hours, and thanks to the integrated cooling technology, your skin will feel soothed before you leave the clinic. You may resume your normal daily activities immediately.
Consultation and Next Steps
Because every patient's skin and hair profile is unique, all laser hair removal services begin with a thorough clinical assessment. Master Esthetician Jaime will evaluate your medical history, skin type, and hair density to develop a structured, customized treatment plan.
